Welcome to my first blog post! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I focus on mindset through fitness and daily life as a traveling professional woman. Health has a direct effect on my profession as a commercial pilot. Though my fitness journey, I also built mental fortitude that has spilled over into my profession. As you can see, all these facets are interdependent when progressing towards my vision!
For me, it started while flying. I grew up as an athlete and stayed active in my adult years. But when flying increasingly got more demanding, as well as my office job that accompanied it, I missed a few opportunities to workout, ate more convenient (processed and high fat) foods and as you can guess, I gained weight and felt lethargic.
I felt uncomfortable and insecure being larger than my normal size. Worst of all, when I started to criticize my appearance, it effected my confidence.
Being resourceful, I thought I could fix my situation with cleaning up my diet, but there were skills I didn’t possess such as portion control. Fed up, I finally invested in myself. It wasn’t until I hired a coach I started to see results, and I enrolled myself into a fitness competition. As an athlete, this competition was a welcomed challenge. Motivated, I worked hard to keep my work performance and physical performance on top. Then one day, I found myself so drowsy, I had to pull over and nap. That nap lasted a whopping 45 minutes. The frequency of those long naps on the side of the road increased until I finally had to figure out what was wrong with me.
No pilot wants to take a sleep study. Reluctantly I took it. I was scared of what the results would reveal.
Is it fixable? Would I be able to fly again? What would I do if I didn’t fly? Relieved, the tests resulted with the diagnosis of extreme sleep deprivation. So what was this all for? All the negative self-talk, the sleep sacrificed, the isolated training all to make your job or a few pounds a priority?
Have you allowed yourself to bring work home so often you sacrifice your sleep or your social life? Have you rushed to work skipping breakfast and then eating whatever you can get your hands on so you work through lunch just to feel tired and unsatisfied the rest of the day? Do you find yourself in periodic burn outs and 10 pounds heavier? Do you criticize yourself from this cycle? I have done all of these to the point where I gave so much, I almost lost my job! I’m excited to bring all the knowledge I know as a traveling professional woman about health, wellness, fitness, mindset, and how to incorporate them in your demanding traveling life.
I recognize there are numerous traveling professional women who want to gain a little more control over their lifestyle to beat the negative effects of a blooming career. Today’s woman wants it all-the career, the family, the health. Does it have to cost you your social life or emotionally drain you? No it shouldn’t! I want to help build your resilience, increase your mental, emotional and physical skills, and build your confidence. Your lifestyle and mindset affects all areas of your life; now’s the time to take some action!
I invite you to read my blog, and in return, I hope to give you, the traveling professional woman, the motivation, education and mindset skills to let your body and mind work for you and the ultimate vision you have for yourself.
